Army Lacrosse had a pair of BIG wins this past weekend, with the Men downing UMass in dominant fashion on the road, 16-9, while the Women took down Rutgers at home off a last-second goal, 10-9. I confess that I went skiing at Mount Snow this past weekend, so I personally saw neither game. With that in mind, we humbly suggest the Academy’s official write-ups if you also missed the action.

From the Academy’s official report on the Men’s side:
The Black Knights’ offense saw contributions from eight different goal scorers, led by Jackson Eicher, who netted four goals and dished out three assists, and freshman Brayden Fountain, who also tallied four goals in his collegiate debut.”

Have a day fellas https://t.co/Wk2I4y7ACB pic.twitter.com/k43CPYb8WY
Unsurprisingly, FOGO Will Coletti dominated at X, taking 15/23 faceoffs. Coletti and Eicher have since been named Patriot League Players of the Week. What was surprising was seeing a bunch of plebes get extended time in this game, with several notching multiple goals. A Hill Plunket and M Aiden Weisenborn each scored twice. Several friends texted me privately after the game to note how impressively the new plebes played.
On the Women’s side:
Army West Point women’s lacrosse (1-0) opened the 2025 campaign in thrilling fashion as sophomore Ryan Remaly scored the game-winning goal with one second on the clock to top Rutgers (0-1) 10-9 at Michie Stadium.
Army battled back from a 3-0 deficit early to eventually take a 6-4 lead into halftime, with the teams trading goals in a tightly-contested second half.
Juniors Allison Reilly and Chloe Garrett led the Black Knights with three goals with an assist each while junior Brigid Duffy filled the stat sheet with four points, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and three draw controls. Garrett’s four points marked the first of her career while making her first career start.”
The good news here is that the Black Knights’ defense held up, and they got plenty of offense from additional scorers besides just Reilly and Duffy. If the Women can keep that going, their ceiling is legitimately unlimited.

Big Week Ahead for the Men!
The #12 Army Men face Rutgers this Saturday at noon at Michie Stadium. They then travel to Yale to meet the #9 Bulldogs in New Haven, CT. After that, they’ll travel to Mercer for a game in Naples, FL, on February 22. That ought to be a wild week! Both the Rutgers and Yale contests could easily wind up becoming snow games. We can only imagine that the trip to Florida will feel like a welcome respite after that.
Rutgers is already 2-1, having opened the season on the road in Week 0 against then-#20 Lehigh with a 10-6 win. They then hosted LIU and won, 17-3, before falling at home to Stony Brook in a shocking loss, falling 9-8.
Might they have been looking ahead to the Army game?
The Scarlet Knights offense looked good against Lehigh’s notoriously stingy defense. If it took Rutgers every bit of three and a half quarters to put the Mountain Hawks away, the Scarlet Knights still led the entire game, usually by at least two goals. A Collin Kelly and M Kasey Mongillo lead Rutger’s scoring so far this season with 5 goals and an assist, set up by Midfielders J.J. Aiello and Colin Kurdyla, each of whom have 3 goals and 3 assists. G Cardin Stoller has made 33 saves in three games, good for a whopping 64.7% save percentage.
Rutgers has a good team that’s stumbled once. Lehigh had trouble breaking down the Scarlet Knights’ defense. Army will need its best stuff at home this weekend to avoid a high-leverage upset.

However, if we have a decent feel for Rutgers, Yale remains a near-complete unknown. Though the Bulldogs started the season ranked in the Top 10 and were picked to finish third in the Ivy League, they’ve yet to play a game. They’re at Villanova (0-1 following a 15-5 loss to #12 Penn State) this Saturday and will then host Army for their second game of the season.
Yale Attacks Leo Johnson and Chris Lyons and M Brad Sharp were all picked to the Tewaaraton Watch List. At a minimum, we should therefore expect the Bulldogs to come in with some seriously high-powered offense.
Women vs. Marist and Siena
With their win over Rutgers, Army’s Women rose to #23 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. They’ll travel to Marist (0-1, following a 15-5 loss to New Hampshire) to take on the Red Foxes before hosting the Sienna Bulldogs on February 22.
Despite dropping last year’s game against Sienna, Army’s Women really should win both of these games handily. After that, they’ll travel to Colorado to take on the #20 Buffaloes in a game that might show us just how good this year’s Black Knights team can be.

Final Thoughts
Both the Men’s and Women’s teams have gotten off to good starts. We’ll know more about what these teams can really do, though, after they’ve played a few more games. That said, 2025 could easily become a special season from where we are right now.
