Last week was close. The boy almost got the victory at Falcon Stadium. Alas, almost only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes, and now the Army team desperately needs a win.
They can get one this week. They just need to follow The Keys to Victory.
Run the damn ball.
UMASS allows 268 yards rushing per game, which is absolutely terrible. The Army offense has struggled to consistently run the ball since the Michigan game in Week three. We need a reset. A porous UMASS defense should allow us the opportunity to get back on track and get some swagger back.
It shouldn’t be a big ask for 350+ yards rushing but we’ll see.

Play for the shutout.
The Army defense has been carrying us throughout the season. They need to come up strong this week as well. UMass’s offense averages 22 points per game and 310 yards per game, so they can score points. Granted they have one of the weakest schedules in football. They’ve still put some points on the board.
Still, there is no reason for the defense not to get a shutout. That kind of performance could change the mood and inspire the Army faithful, setting us up for a strong finish to an otherwise tough year.

No unforced errors.
By some miracle, Army had zero turnovers last week against Air Force. We at As For Football have harped on the importance of limiting turnovers all season and how that’s crucial to sustaining drives. There is no excuse for any turnovers this week against this team. We aren’t sure who will start at quarterback, and if we score enough points, maybe we’ll even see some new faces out there. But we need to be perfect.
Fumbles kill drives. Catching a case of the dropsies before Navy is definitely not what we need.

That’s it folks. Pretty straightforward this week. Don’t fumble the ball, run the ball, prevent them from moving the ball.
Game time is noon on CBS Sports. Take a drink every time they say, “Analytics.” Finish your glass whenever they say, “This is right where Army wants to be.”
